Sled Dogs Ireland – Irish Federation of Sleddog Sports

Another Sled Dog Success

Saturday the 20th of March saw the second Sled Dogs Ireland - Irish Federation of Sleddog Sports, Walk on the Wild Side event.  A beautiful bright sunny day iin County Galway greeted the walkers when they arrived at the foot of the first ascent of the rocky Burren landscape. The group were led by Events Organiser, Vicky Redman Cole, with points of interest highlighted along the way, and informative tidbits on the history of the area. The dogs seemed to find the climb considerably less challenging than the humans at times, but by the time the group arrived back at the campsite, all were suitably tired.

After a good meal, watering and feeding of the hungry hounds, who consisted of Siberian Huskys, Bulldog, Staffies and Cross breeds, the gang (who mustn't have been tired enough!) played a 'friendly' game of soccer, and then retired to the campfire for stories and song late into the evening.

'These events allow people to get involved in a non - competitive activity with their dogs, and also encourage those with breeds with a less than desirable reputation to socialise with others who are willing to give all breeds a chance. The organisers went to great efforts to ensure that everyone had a good time, and that both dogs and owners were 'dog' tired at the end of a long and enjoyable day.' commented Mandy Hynes, Secretary of the Federation.

Once again, SDI-IFSS hosted yet another successful event, with promises of a return to the Wild Side walks shortly into the future.
